Clara Sallago

Born in Barcelona, Clara Sallago is a singer and songwriter graduated from ESEM Taller de Musics with a major in jazz-singing.

She began her musical training at the Superior Music Conservatory of her hometown at the age of eight. In 2000, she started to study musical theater at Eòlia school. At the same time, she took individual classes of vocal technic with the singers Carme Canela, Xevi Garcia and Viv Manning.

In 2009,  she obtained the Bachelor of music at Taller de Musics in Barcelona, after practicing for several years improvisation and arrangements with Ana Finger and piano with Alejandro di Costanzo. During these years, she participated at numerous seminaries and master classes with important musicians like Javier Colina, Avishai Cohen, Claudia Acuña, Seamus Blake, Vanesa Rubin, Miguel Poveda and Kevin Heys.

She is vocal coach since 2002 and worked at differents schools around Barcelona, like Eòlia, Performing Arts Center, or Creu Alta Music School (Sabadell), both authorized by the Government of Catalonia. She also worked as a choir director with La Capsa Gospel Choir, Gospel Sants and Gospel Link Singers, among others.

As a performer, she was a soprano soloist with the group Black & White Xperience, leaded by the artist Emmanuelle Djob. With this band, she made several tours in France and Italy and recorded their 7th album. She participated as featured artist in many recordings. She also was one of the soloist of the Big Ensemble Taller de Músics at the 45 Voll Damm Internacional Jazz Festival of Barcelona, in the tribute to the poet Juan Gelman. In 2013, she performed in the Palau de la Música Catalan, as a soloist in the Cantata Geografia Espriu, directed by the composer Enric Palomar.

Since 2009, she leads the group Clara Sallago Quartet and has performed in some of the best jazz clubs of the catalan scene. But this talented artist has more than one string in her bow and she sings regularly with latinoamerican folklore and flamenco groups. In 2012, she started to compose the first songs of what would become her new album Cantos de Hidra.  This project was played live at Connexions Festival  and also at  Born de Cançons Festival. She currently lives in Paris, where she’s developing her artistic career.
